Observe and Report
Posted : 3 months, 3 weeks ago on 9 August 2009 07:18
(A review of Observe and Report)So typical to put ethnic funny looking and awkward people in a movie and think it's automatically funny. Observe and Report is nonetheless quite daring film in couple of levels. This kind of main characters blind insanity is a new point of view in these kind of movies. Surprisingly mildly disturbing film. 0 comments, Reply to this entry

(A review of Star Trek)What a surprise. I really liked the tv-serielike touch on this. This could just be a season finale of a series you are having really fun to watch. For what it is, it is great. Watch it with friend so you can comment on it at the same time, don't get too serious with it. + No unnecessary romance + Action parts weren't notched down for the PG-Rating + Makers didn't get wild with the outfits, they are simpe + Multimedia execution - Simon Peggs char 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Great guilty pleasure.

(A review of Class of 1984)First of all, the setting of the movie is at the same time stupid and fun. How could and educated man such as the lead guy be so ignorant of the situation of the state of the (semi-dystopish)state...? ofthestateofthestate. If you get over it then there is this wild card; The main character is so innocent, bright and willing to do good but oh my god! He is so mistreated and it seems the more good he tries to do the worse things get! I hate that. One would assume I hate this movie, I don't. It is large bucket of enjoyment and basicly very cruel and dirty. I'm willing to forgive the negative side, because the movie well done if you consider the script. Great guilty-pleasure. And by the way. Don't do drungs, otherwise you'll end up falling from 10 METERS trying to grap the american flag. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Interesting insinght on Amish youth

(A review of Devil's Playground)This documentary focuses on the period in every Amish fellows life when they have a chance to try out living outside of the community. Usually this period lasts from couple of months to couple of years and it starts when you turn 16. After you have tried out the 'sinister' lifestyle, you have a choise to make if you want to join the church. This period is called Rumspringa. The documentary is quite objective but only thing I didnt liked about was the soundtrack. It is a bit cheesy. This was documentary was quite informative which was nice. I've heard about this event but I didn't know that during Rumspringa youngsters usually try out various psychoactive substances and premarital sex. A recommended watch if you are into documentaries. 1 comments, Reply to this entry
A Waste of time

(A review of Room 205)This isn't funny anymore. We all have seen this same plot a thousand of times. Just because this is danish it doesn't make it any better. There is some decent acting and I was hoping that the horror part would be take the film up a notch but nah. Total lack of originality. I liked the sound effects though but It's just that I made similar ones for High School art projects myself... To sum it up, I would only recommend you this only if you are a coming director and you wan't to feel yourself better. Almost anyone could have made this movie and in this case it definately isn't a compliment. If you wan't some proper haunting house film from Denmark. Watch Riget. Do it. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Widely entertaining slashing from Germany

(A review of Flashback - Mörderische Ferien)This is a must watch for every slasher-film digger. It's a very campy flick including actually quite cleverly bunch of horror cliches. The tone of the film is very light but it isn't underlined that the movie would be comedy. It's a surprise that this has such a neat cinematography. Annihilated puppies, bad dubbing and dissected puppies for everyone! Not too recommended if you aren't into horror though but as a horror watcher I must say this has also some spice. I have to give this one some respect. 1 comments, Reply to this entry
A definitive classic kung-fu comedy

(A review of Drunken Master)If you aren't totally ignorant, you might know that Jackie Chan has acted in good movies as well. That was before his Hollywood era, this is one of those movies. Jui kuen (a.k.a. Drunken Master) is a classic rascal-comedy by legendary Woo-ping Yuen. The movie is from the times when if there weren't big budget, you 'had' to be creative. No 'great' visual effects to distract you from noticing the flaws of the film. No doubt that Jui kuens plot is very conventional, it is just that the movie dares to try. They are having fun, they are genuinely creative. This might not be just quite Chans best one, it still is loads of fun for all ages. Other great Jackie Chan movies: Snake in the Eagle's Shadow Police Story Legend of Drunken master 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Strangers in the nnnig... suburbia.

(A review of The Strangers)I have seen this movie before. It sort of reminded me Funny Games but without the cold atmosphere and reasonable script / directing. This was so full of cheesy bits that I thought this was ment to be as a camp film but I guess it isn't then. Scene after scene I kept thinking I have seen this about thousand times before. That's not good. Atleast the use of sound was very done well and the film itself was mildly entertaining. If I would have seen this as a first horror movie I think I would definately have liked it more. This might be possible camp-favorite in the year 2050. I prefer Funny Games and even Ils (a.k.a Them) instead. They do have the same plot. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Insightful view of MPAA - Americas rating system
Posted : 1 year, 2 months ago on 30 September 2008 08:15
(A review of This Film Is Not Yet Rated)Funny, thrilling, entertaining and insightful documentary from daring documentarist Kirby Dick (Sick: The Life & Death of Bob Flanagan, Supermasochist). Sometimes it is hard to recognize different countries rating systems flaws because you aren't affected by them in any way. This Film Is Not Yet Rated is about MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) and the cartel behind it's systems. This documentary points you the absurdity, corruptedness, twistedness and closemindedness of it all. Definitely recommended. (IMDB) Certification: Malaysia:(Banned) | UK:18 | Singapore:R21 | USA:Unrated (rating surrendered) | Netherlands:16 | USA:NC-17 (rating surrendered) | Argentina:18 | Canada:14A (Canadian Home Video rating/Manitoba/Ontario) | Australia:MA | Greece:K | USA:TV-MA (TV rating) | Portugal:M/12 Nice variation. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
Sometimes the movies title says it all

(A review of Young People Fucking (YPF))Ever heard of Martin Gero? No worries, me neither. This is his first movie as a director (previously he wrote Stargate-series) and I have to say he did a decent job in this one. It's obvious that this tries to be somewhat taboo-breaking. Maybe it is for its audience, for me Young people fucking is just quite enjoyable light comedy from Canada. This movie is about five different sexual situations. Basicly all the people in this movie wants different things from sex. The pace, acting and storytelling are really similar to tv-series which actually was pleasurable. You don't wait pseudo-surprising twistes to happen. You just let it roll and be entertained. If you are interested in peoples sexual behaviour and the search of their sexual...themselves. I would recommend Shortbus. This might be a aperative for it. 0 comments, Reply to this entry
